Yadiirim sat on the stairs confused, tired, angry and determined to do something which she was yet to figure out. How could this be happening to her? Her friends had warned, but she thought they were jealous. No, Jide had said that they were jealous.

Jide was man enough to feed her pride to pigs? And to a pig like Hadiza? Oh, Hadiza… What a witch, Yadiirim thought. She remembered the smirk of satisfaction on Hadiza’s face when Jide tried to explain nothing. Yes, he had nothing to say. He could not deny anything now.

Her phone rang beside her for what seemed like the hundredth time. She would not listen to his “nothing”. Never again. Her mouth felt like cursing. She wiped the tears that announced her dilemma and picked up her phone. A text message from an unsaved number came in.

I am going to kill myself for failing you. I am so sorry. Forgive me. I love you.
Jide.

She checked Whatsapp. He had sent her a video of him mixing Sniper in Sprite. Shock waves coursed through her body, and she could hear her heart beat like a bass drum. She hoped he did not mean it this time around. Last time, he had waited when she called him to stop. Would he listen to her this time? Would he kill himself before she gets there? She doesn’t want to live with the guilt. She must go there immediately!

Eugenia met Yadiirim at the gate. Where is this one rushing to, Eugenia thought?

“You told me you were going to stay at home,” Eugenia said, voicing her confusion.

“He wants to kill himself for my sake! I have to stop him,” Yadiirim replied. She sounded like a scared old woman.

Eugenia’s face lit up, fuelled by months of unending hatred for Jide. She had hated the control Jide wielded on her friend’s emotions. Eugenia despised him consciously using his powers to steer her friend. It had to end!

“If I slap you eh, you get back inside! He is not going to kill himself.” Eugenia was ready even to restrain her bewildered friend. She ordered the security man to lock the gate.

“What did I tell you about emotional blackmail?” She asked Yadiirim, and she led her shaky friend upstairs.

The Next Day

Friends came to my help. So you don’t care if I died? You too make mistakes.

Jide

Yadiirim read it aloud to Eugenia. Eugenia hissed with venom on her lips. Yadiirim laughed, and she replied the text message:

Get lost!!!!!!!!
